Looking over drunk driving statistics

While there are many dangerous and reckless behaviors that negligent drivers carry out, such as reaching excessive speeds and driving while very tired, drunk driving is an especially troubling problem. In Las Cruces, Santa Fe, Silver City and across all parts of New Mexico, some drivers choose to drive while intoxicated even though they are well aware of the dangers associated with driving under the influence. It is vital to understand how widespread drunk driving is for victims of these wrecks to take action right away.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that 28 people pass away in motor vehicle accidents that include a driver who is under the influence of alcohlol every single day in America. These crashes, which result in annual costs exceeding $44 billion, also result in debilitating injuries for victims. For example, a DUI crash victim may have broken bones, severe physical pain, emotional trauma and serious financial problems.

Throughout 2012, over 10,000 Americans lost their lives in a drunk driving accident, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Tragically, if drivers had simply stayed off of the road or chosen to call a taxi because of their alcohol intoxication, many of these deaths never would have occurred.

For victims of a DUI wrecks and their families, recovering can be challenging for an array of reasons. Some are unsure of their legal rights or how to move forward. However, reckless drivers who take to the roads while drunk cannot get away with what they have done.
