Hit-and-run accident leaves New Mexico man paralyzed

by | Jan 16, 2017 | Motor Vehicle Accidents

Driving New Mexico’s roads can be a hazardous undertaking. We have some very isolated roads and an array of wildlife that other states don’t have to deal with. That’s on top of the typical perils like drunk and distracted drivers.

One New Mexico man experienced this first hand and is now paralyzed because of it. The man was headed to El Paso from Alamogordo when his car was run off the road by another driver. His vehicle flipped and slammed into a mesquite bush, at which point authorities believe he broke his spine.

Here’s the worst part: the other driver callously took off without checking to see if the man was okay, leaving him to suffer and possibly die. There were witnesses to the accident, but none could get the license plate number quickly enough as the white Chrysler sped away.

That was four months ago. After rehabilitation and recovery, the man has fears he will never be able to walk again. Though he’s trying to maintain a positive attitude, he may be facing a lifetime of relying on others for his medical care.

Police are still searching for the hit-and-run driver. If they do, the driver will almost certainly face severe criminal charges and would be open to a personal injury lawsuit.

If you’ve been involved in a motor vehicle accident that was caused by someone else’s negligence, you may want to consider speaking with an attorney. A personal injury lawyer might be able to help you file a suit and recover compensation for lost wages and medical bills.
